Marie Béney focused her research on our way of fantasizing and projecting the end of the world. Her painting work is based on geological and meteorological depictions, evoking both the birth and death of the world as we know it. The catalytic aspect of beliefs about our emotions regarding the concept of death is at the heart of his research. This led her to highlight the links between divination and meteorology in the annunciation of the end of the world, but also with belief and religion, which can be found in her sculpture. This last dimension is found in his sculpture evoking a physical entrance into a religious place, questioning places and non-places such as 3D digital spaces can be.

(Mémoire from the Master 2 year at the ERG school)

Marie Béney designed her thesis in the form of a card game borrowing from the visual codes of divination (and in particular those of cartomancy) to compile extracts from texts collected around her projects, with her writings in prose as well as illustrations.
This game contains 116 cards:

a) 37 written prediction weather maps (prose) ( 1 to 37 )
b) 37 quotation cards from theoretical texts (excerpts) ( 38 to 74 )
c) 42 weather maps with illustrated situations (based on past weather reports, but also isolated phenomena. All together can constitute weather reports: maps representing winds, fronts, depressions, disasters, etc.) ( 75 to 116 ) (note the pagination numbers are not noted on this part of the cards)

This game offers an encounter between your hands and chance, which will give rise to an alternative version of the end of the world to tell you about. It offers you a small assortment of themes, situation-stories written in prose and illustrations that come together in current apocalyptic questions.
what are we becoming? what is the message of the bad weather? what do our digital landscapes reveal? how does death speak of life? to what extent will the image survive us? is she our vessel through disappearance?
Quel temps avons-nous ? (2022)

Apocalyptic weather report:
Through the writing of texts written upstream for the performance, she takes up the visual codes and the lexical field of meteorology in a game with the performative aspect of the weather report. It connects meteorological vocabulary with that of the end of the world, or rather that of the end of our world.
